Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has officially unveiled a new loitering munition known as the Shahed-107. The announcement was reported by the Iranian news outlet Mehr.
So far, the only official detail released is that the drone can fly up to 1,500 kilometers.
Photos of the Shahed-107 show that it features a turboprop engine, an X-shaped tail, and a rectangular wing. The wing appears to include ailerons for control. The fuselage is long and cylindrical, ending in a pointed nose. A Pitot tube, which measures airspeed, is visible at the front of the drone.
Experts believe the drone could be launched from a catapult or with the help of a solid-fuel booster. Another possibility is that it takes off from a runway using a wheeled launch trolley that detaches once airborne.
This drone was mentioned in the media before, but no images had been shared until now. In January 2024, Sky News reported that several Shahed-107 drones might have been sent to Russia under a deal between Moscow and Tehran. That report described the drone as about 2.5 meters long with a wingspan of up to 3 meters. Its range was said to be around 1,500 kilometers — the same as now confirmed.
From the photos, the drone’s size appears consistent with those earlier reports. Given its size and range, experts suggest it likely carries a relatively light warhead.
The development of the Shahed-107 likely started over a year ago. However, Tehran chose to publicly reveal it only now, amid growing tensions with Israel.
