Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv overnight on June 5, injuring at least 17 people, including four children, regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported.
According to Syniehubov, at least two high-rise residential buildings in the city’s Slobodsky district were hit by attack drones. Among the injured are two 13-year-old girls, a pregnant woman, and a 93-year-old woman. Officials have not released details on the severity of the injuries.
Emergency crews remain on-site as damage assessments continue. Several vehicles were also destroyed in the strike, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed.
The attack follows a series of large-scale Russian aerial assaults in recent days. On the night of June 1, Russia launched its largest drone barrage since the start of the full-scale invasion, deploying 472 drones in a single night.
Just two days earlier, on June 2, another wave of Russian missile and drone strikes in Kharkiv injured six people, including one child.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 4 that Russia has carried out nearly 48,600 aerial attacks so far in 2025 alone.
Kharkiv Oblast remains one of the hardest-hit regions in Ukraine. Russian forces frequently target densely populated areas in Kharkiv city, striking residential buildings and civilian infrastructure with missiles, drones, and glide bombs.
