For the second consecutive night, Russia has reported a drone strike targeting Moscow, with local authorities claiming that 19 Ukrainian drones were destroyed before reaching the city. The strike prompted temporary closures of all four of the capital’s major airports, which later reopened, according to Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia.
Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the drones came from “different directions” and that some debris had fallen onto a key highway. However, he confirmed that no casualties were reported. Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the attack.
In addition to Moscow, other regions in Russia were also targeted by drone strikes overnight. The governors of Penza and Voronezh reported drone activity, and Kharkiv’s mayor confirmed that Russia had launched drone strikes in Ukraine’s second-largest city, as well as in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian officials said one person was killed in a drone strike in the Odesa region.
This attack marks the second night in a row that Ukraine has reportedly targeted Moscow with drones. On Monday, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 26 Ukrainian drones in an overnight strike.
Unconfirmed reports from Russian military bloggers suggested that the windows of an apartment in southern Moscow were damaged. Meanwhile, some sources claimed that the Russian authorities had also been targeted in Kursk, where they reported damage to an electrical substation in the town of Rylsk due to Ukrainian attacks.
Escalating Cross-Border Tensions and Attacks
In the Kursk region, reports indicated that Ukrainian forces had made several attempts to cross the border into Russia’s Kursk area. The Ukrainian military reportedly hit a drone command unit near the village of Tyotkino on Sunday, and military bloggers shared images of vehicles breaking through border defenses. Ukrainian forces also reportedly engaged in missile strikes over the border and crossed minefields in special vehicles.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue to maintain a presence in Russia’s Kursk region, according to a statement made by the Ukrainian government. In a separate development, local authorities in Sumy, Ukraine, located near the Kursk border, urged residents to evacuate from two settlements due to escalating tensions.
The increased drone activity and reported incursions into Russian territory mark a significant shift in the ongoing conflict, as Ukrainian forces continue to challenge Russian military positions both at home and across the border.
