On May 12, the Rarog 427th Unmanned Systems Regiment released footage showing the successful neutralization of a Russian Garmon radar station. The radar, an advanced ground-based system capable of tracking over 30 air targets simultaneously, was taken out by a single Ukrainian kamikaze drone.
The Garmon radar is designed to detect a wide range of aerial targets, from manned aircraft to small drones, and feeds real-time data to Russian air-defense networks. Despite its advanced multitarget tracking and classification capabilities, the system proved vulnerable to the attack. The Ukrainian drone, exploiting the radar’s predictable scanning pattern, delivered a direct hit, rendering the station inoperable.
This strike highlights the evolving effectiveness of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in modern warfare. By using precision and surprise, the Rarog operators demonstrated the increasing role of drones in countering advanced enemy defense systems.
