A woman injured in a Pakistani drone attack in Ferozepur, Punjab, on May 9 has died three days later from her burn injuries. The attack, which targeted civilians, set a house on fire, leaving the woman and two of her family members, Lakhwinder Singh and his brother Monu Singh, severely burned. The three were rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment, according to reports.
The incident occurred amid a series of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. On the same day, Pakistan launched heavy shelling along India’s border districts in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan. Over 25 locations in these states were targeted by a swarm of drones, though most were intercepted by India’s air defense systems.
The attack comes after heightened tensions between the two nations, following Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) on May 8. The escalation follows India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, attributed to Pakistan-backed terrorists.
