Ukraine Targets Russian Industrial Sites with Overnight Drone Strikes

Dozens of Ukrainian drones struck multiple industrial sites across Russia late Sunday and early Monday morning, according to Russian media and officials. The attacks were part of a coordinated effort and came in several waves.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 96 drones overnight and 12 more on Monday morning across various regions. The drone strikes prompted aviation authorities to temporarily suspend flights in and out of several cities, including the capital, Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that at least 10 drones were intercepted near the capital. No injuries were reported in those incidents or in other affected areas.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the Ukrainian border, air defense systems were activated near the town of Yelabuga. The area includes the Alabuga industrial zone, which houses a key drone production facility supplying the Russian military. This site was previously targeted in April 2024.

In the Ivanovo region, around 800 kilometers (500 miles) from Ukraine, drones reportedly struck an industrial area early Monday. Although authorities did not confirm details, residents said the Dmitriyevsky Chemical Plant was damaged. Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Kovalenko said the plant is involved in producing parts for Russian military weapons, including missiles.

Meanwhile, residents in the Tula region reported overnight explosions at the site of NPO Splav, a manufacturer of rockets. The Telegram news outlet Astra, which cited these reports, noted it was unclear whether the facility—already targeted twice this month—was hit again.

These drone attacks come as Ukraine faces its own wave of Russian strikes. Authorities in Kyiv said Monday that Russia launched its third consecutive large-scale aerial assault, killing at least six people and injuring over two dozen others within the last 24 hours.
