The Córdoba Police Department is launching a new drone unit to modernize its operations with cutting-edge technology. The unit, called Svant (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System), will play a key role in law enforcement and public safety.
The Svant division will carry out a wide range of tasks including preventive patrols, search and rescue missions, crowd monitoring, judicial raids, and anti-terror operations. It will also provide surveillance in high-risk zones and during large public events.
Major investment in drone technology
To support the program, the provincial government has opened a public tender to purchase 15 drones. These will include short-, medium-, and long-range models. The total investment is expected to reach 7.842 billion pesos, or around USD 6.9 million.
The project also includes three specially equipped utility vehicles. These will act as mobile command centers. In addition, an anti-drone system will be installed to detect and stop unauthorized drones—such as those used to smuggle items into prisons.
AI tools for smarter policing
The Ministry of Security confirmed that artificial intelligence (AI) will be part of the system. The AI tools will help with facial recognition, video analysis, and biometric identification. These features aim to make patrols and investigations faster and more effective.
Strategic locations for operations
Svant’s main base will be set up at the Provincial Aeronautics Directorate, close to Ambrosio Taravella Airport. A second base will be located at the Coronel Olmedo Aeroclub, allowing wider coverage across the province.
