Multiple regions in Russia came under attack by drones in the early hours of June 6, according to Russian media. Strikes were reported in Tambov, Saratov, Moscow, Tula, Belgorod, and Kaluga oblasts. These attacks follow Ukraine’s recent increase in drone operations deep inside Russian territory.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the reports at the time of publication.
In Tambov Oblast, a drone reportedly hit the JSC Progress Plant in Michurinsk, sparking a fire. The plant is known for producing advanced aviation and missile control systems, as well as equipment for the gas and oil industries. Local residents reported the strike through Russian Telegram channels. Officials have not yet commented. This facility was also targeted in a drone strike in December 2024.
In Saratov Oblast, the Kristal Oil Refinery, which supplies fuel to the Engels-2 military airfield, was also struck. Russian media said the plant caught fire after the drone attack. Ukraine has reportedly targeted this refinery before.
A train derailment occurred in Belgorod Oblast after an explosive device detonated under the tracks, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Part of the railway was damaged, but no one was hurt.
In Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said air defense systems intercepted 10 drones. He confirmed that emergency teams were sent to the crash sites but did not provide details on damage.
Kaluga Oblast Governor Vladislav Shapsha reported that five drones were shot down, damaging several cars.
In Tula Oblast, air defense units intercepted two drones. Three people were injured, according to Governor Dmitry Milyaev.
These attacks came the same night Russia launched another large-scale drone and missile assault on Ukraine. That attack killed four people in Kyiv and injured others in western Ukrainian cities, far from the front line.
The conflict has grown more intense in recent weeks. Peace talks have stalled, and Russia has refused to accept a ceasefire.
In late May, Russia launched some of the heaviest aerial attacks of the full-scale war, striking Ukrainian cities over three nights. Less than a week later, Ukraine responded with “Operation Spiderweb,” a major drone strike that reportedly damaged 41 Russian military aircraft.
Since then, Ukraine has kept up its campaign, targeting missile bases, oil refineries, and the Crimean Bridge.
