Sudanese Army Repels Sixth Day of RSF Drone Attacks on Port Sudan

by Belinda

The Sudanese army announced on Friday that it had repelled drone attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Port Sudan for the sixth straight day.

Military anti-aircraft units fired heavily at drones flying over central Port Sudan and northern areas of the city. These locations include Sudan’s main Red Sea ports and the Flamingo naval base, according to a Sudan Tribune correspondent based in the city.

The military’s latest statement comes after a series of RSF drone strikes between Sunday and Wednesday. Those earlier attacks reportedly hit key infrastructure at the Osman Digna airbase, located near Port Sudan International Airport. RSF drones also targeted oil depots, private warehouses near the southern port, and shelled the Flamingo naval base.

The army said its forces managed to repel new drone strikes on Thursday and Friday. Several “suicide” drones were reportedly destroyed. These recent attacks mainly focused on the Flamingo naval base and the headquarters of the air college located within it.

Drone activity was also reported on Thursday evening over the Flamingo base and the Kenana airbase, south of Rabak in White Nile State. Army air defense systems responded to both incidents, according to military sources.

Earlier on Thursday, an RSF drone reportedly struck fuel depots in Kosti, White Nile State, sparking large fires and thick smoke. Other attacks were aimed at the army’s 18th Division headquarters and military positions in Tendelti, west of Kosti. These strikes caused casualties among both military personnel and civilians, though exact figures were not provided.

Military analysts say the RSF has increased drone attacks this week, focusing on fuel storage sites, airports, and military airbases in Port Sudan, Kassala, and Kenana.
