France’s Aerix Launches High-Speed Tactical Drone with AI and Modular Design

by Belinda

On April 22, 2025, French drone manufacturer Aerix Systems officially introduced its latest aerial platform, the AXS-µ1. Entirely developed, assembled, and tested in France, this compact drone is designed to meet the growing demands of today’s complex military operations.

The AXS-µ1 stands out for its high agility and versatility. Thanks to its omnidirectional propulsion system and modular design, the drone can be quickly adapted for different missions and rapidly deployed in various environments.

The new platform is based on technology from Aerix’s earlier T-6 model but takes performance even further. The AXS-µ1 can fly upside down, rotate freely, and stay stable in strong winds. Despite its small size—just 40 by 40 centimeters—it can hit speeds up to 200 km/h, fly up to 20 kilometers, and carry payloads of up to 1.5 kilograms. For standard operations, 750 grams is recommended. Its flight time is up to 15 minutes when fully loaded.

Precision is one of the drone’s key strengths. It offers centimeter-level accuracy and precise control of roll, pitch, and yaw across all three motion axes. The drone also features 32 mechanical attachment points, making it easy to add or swap different payloads. It supports a wide range of electronic interfaces, including USB, UART, Ethernet, and more, which allows smooth integration into existing control systems.

The AXS-µ1 supports onboard AI, computer vision, and autonomous functions. It can operate independently or through first-person view (FPV), and comes equipped with AI-assisted obstacle avoidance. Its plug-and-play setup is designed to reduce the need for complex operator training.

Built to serve in multiple roles, the drone can be used as a loitering munition, a strike weapon, a drone interceptor, or a surveillance tool (ISTAR). Its low visibility and ability to fly at very low altitudes make it ideal for stealth operations in tight or urban areas.

Every part of the AXS-µ1 is made in Bordeaux, from its airframe to its electronics. By keeping production local, Aerix Systems strengthens its independence at a time when global supply chains are under pressure. Although some marketing materials show a British flag, the company makes it clear that the drone is 100% French technology and aims to serve both European and international defense markets.

The AXS-µ1 includes an onboard computer designed for real-time data processing. It can be used on land, sea, or in the air, making it highly flexible. The drone is especially suited for special forces and rapid-response teams working in high-risk zones.

With this launch, Aerix Systems offers a powerful, adaptable drone built to meet the changing needs of the modern battlefield. The first units are ready for delivery, and the company is open to demos, proof-of-concept trials, and pre-orders from interested clients.
